Listed below are just a few of the many resources available to schools that are planning a sun protection curriculum. Many of these organizations have school sun protection materials available at no charge. Children's Melanoma Prevention Foundation - Learn Not 2 Burn Program
To achieve their sun safe vision, the Children's Melanoma Prevention Foundation has developed and implemented a specific, tactical, sun safety program that is targeted at school children from pre-k through twelfth grade. This activist, in classroom approach, is called the Learn Not 2 Burn program, and during the 2005-2006 school year, more than 15,000 students actively participated in classroom presentations and projects provided by our foundation.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - SunWise Program
The SunWise Program is an environmental and health education program that aims to teach the public how to protect themselves from overexposure to the sun through the use of classroom, school, and community-based components.
Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation - SunSmart AmericaCurriculum
The Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation is especially proud of it's sun safety curriculum SunSmart America. SunSmart America offers age appropriate classroom modules providing knowledge and skills for attitudinal changes to avoid and understand the life threatening issues of over exposure to the sun. This curriculum is available for K-5, Middle School and High School.
SHADE Foundation of America - Partnership School Programs
The SHADE Foundation's mission is to Protect, Educate, Encourage, and Implement appropriate sun safety policies to assist schools in developing and implementing a program to ensure all children spend their days in a SunWise environment.
Sun Safe City - Sun Smart Kids Cool School Program
The Sun Safe City Program and Skin Cancer Awareness Foundation have joined forces to create the Sun Smart Kids Cool School Program. This program is composed of two age-appropriate presentations (preK-grade 2, grade 3-6) with accompanying scripts, and downloadable classroom material primarily for use by professionals (including school nurses) with background suitable to present the material.
State of California - Protect the skin you're in! Program
The mission of the California Department of Health Services is "To help businesses, organizations, and individuals understand why and how to guard themselves from unprotected exposure to sunlight, since ultraviolet (UV) rays in sunlight cause 90 percent of all skin cancer." To this end, they have developed a comprehensive listing of sun protection resources on their web site.
