Health and Sun Protection
There are a number of health problems that are directly related to excessive sun exposure. These health problems range from sunburn to melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer. Other disorders, such as albinism, lupus, ichthyosis and vitiligo, mean individuals have to live with significantly heightened sun sensitivity. There are also many drugs (including antibiotics, diuretics and antidepressants) that increase sun sensitivity and the potential for problems from overexposure to the sun. Here we discuss these health problems and provide resources for developing a sun-safe lifestyle.
