Newsletter Vol. 3 No. 3 - Skin Cancer Awareness Events
Coolibar supports a wide variety of activities across the country to encourage sun safety awareness. Please participate in events around your community and remember to be SunAWARE!
Over 300 dermatologists will be conducting FREE skin screenings and handing out SunAWARE brochures throughout the country during May. For information on locations in your area, check out the Skin Cancer Screening Map on the American Academy of Dermatology website for more details.
In our home state of Minnesota, Coolibar is sponsoring the Out of the Sun Run to be held in Rochester on May 18th. Tim Burris, race founder and melanoma survivor, is continuing his mission to promote awareness about the dangers of sun exposure and support melanoma research with this 2nd annual event.
The Mike Geltrude Foundation is hosting a Spring Fashion Show in May that features sun protective clothing donated by Coolibar. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Mike Geltrude Foundation which is designed to raise awareness of malignant melanoma.
For the benefit of melanoma education and research, and to honor the spirit of "Aunt Nen," the BB 5K Festival will take place in Fiskdale, Massachusetts (near Sturbridge) on May 19th. Participants will run along picturesque Big Alum Lake and enjoy festivities including a kid’s fun run, live music, and hay rides.
The Arizona Cancer Center's Skin Cancer Institute is presenting Living in Harmony with the Sun at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson, Arizona. There will be skin cancer screenings, educational displays and children's activities.
Participants in the 4th annual Bob Cooke Memorial Trek will walk, run or bike their way around Milford, Connecticut on May 20. Proceeds will benefit The Skin Cancer Foundation and support education on sun safety and the dangers of tanning beds.
Finally, the Melanoma International Foundation will host Safe from the Sun in a number of cities in May. These events have an emphasis on family fun (with a serious side of melanoma screening).
