Coolibar's Management Team
Here are brief biographical sketches for the management of Coolibar, the leader in sun protection clothing in America.
Donna Avery is Coolibar's Chief Executive Officer. She was previously the founder and CEO of Rivertown Trading Company, a catalog retailer with a portfolio of titles including Wireless and Signals. Over a 15 year period, Ms. Avery grew Rivertown from startup to became the country’s 50th largest catalog company with revenues of approximately $200 million. Rivertown was purchased by Dayton Hudson Corporation in 1998 and became Target Direct.
John Barrow, is the Company’s President and the founder of Coolibar, which he formed in 2001. Prior to Coolibar, Mr. Barrow was the Vice President of Marketing for techies.com, a Minneapolis based recruiting service that grew from $1 million to $30 million in sales over 4 years. Mr. Barrow was previously the co-founder of an IT education company, J3 Learning Corporation, that was acquired in 1996 by GartnerGroup, Inc., a NYSE public company. Earlier, Mr. Barrow worked for McKinsey & Co., Inc. on consulting assignments for multinational consumer products companies. Mr. Barrow, who was born in Australia, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New South Wales and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School.
David Brower is the Company's Controller. Before Coolibar, he was the Finance Director at Reserve Marketing Group, a consultancy managing catalog titles including What on Earh, Wireless, and Signals. Previously, Mr. Brower was the Director of Finance at Amerimark Direct, a $120 million direct marketer with catalog titles including Anthony Richards, Healthy Living and Windsor Collection. Earlier, he worked as Controller for Clestra Hauserman, Inc. and Cast Nylons, Ltd. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from John Carroll University.
Lu Daitzchman is the Company’s Vice President of Branding. He was previously Creative Director for Nemer Fieger, a Minneapolis advertising agency. Earlier, Mr. Daitzchman worked as Creative Director for the Saunders Group, a company that designs and markets physical therapy equipment. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
Ann Danaher is the Company’s Vice President of Customer Relations. Ms. Danaher has a strong background in both customer service and human resources. At Target Corporation, Ms. Danaher managed a phone-based customer service team and was a trainer and quality job coach. Previously, she was a project leader and human resource manager at Tool Products Manufacturing Company. Ms. Danaher has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota.
Alan Higley is the Company’s Vice President of Internet Marketing. Previously, Mr. Higley was a Group Media Strategist at Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis where he managed a variety of clients with a focus on financial and technology brands. Mr. Higley started his advertising career at Leo Burnett, Chicago. He has a Master of Science in Advertising degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Journalism in Advertising degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
G. Michael Hubsmith is the Company's Executive Vice President of Merchandising. Mr. Hubsmith was previously president and CEO of Starter Galt, an $80 million casual wear manufacturer; EVP Marketing Head Sports Wear, a $115 million sportswear manufacturer; and VP Merchandising London Fog, a $400 million outerwear manufacturer. Mr. Hubsmith started his career in the apparel industry with a small, growing skiwear manufacturer, Powder Horn Mountaineering. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware.
