Selecting and Using Sunscreen
For five years running, these sunscreens have ranked highly in our
annual face-to-face survey of almost 1,000 dermatologists from across
the U.S.
SolBar Sunscreen and Blue Lizard Sunscreen
have consistently been the most frequently recommended brands from over
50 different sunscreens and sunblock products identified in our annual
survey. SolBar, Blue Lizard and Vanicream sunscreens have also been
reviewed and recommended by
Coolibar's Medical Advisory Board. We believe these sunscreens and sunblocks offer the best sun
protection available in America today.
SPF is a rating for sunscreens and stands for Sun Protection Factor.
A SPF of 30 means you can stay in the sun 30 times as long as you could
without the sunscreen or sunblock with the same degree of sunburn. And
remember that SPF only measures UVB protection, not UVA which can also
be harmful.
Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside
Reapply it every 1 ½ to 2 hours
Use the recommended amount (1 shotglass – or 2 ounces – per adult per application)
Select sunscreens with an SPF of 30 and that provides multispectrum
protection – UVB and UVA - such as SolBar, Blue Lizard or Vanicream.
For the best protection, use with sun protective clothing, sun hats and
sun protective swimwear that has an excellent
UPF rating.
Sunscreen and Sunblock for Sun Protection
Coolibar offers sunscreen and sunblock with SPF 30 or higher ratings for UVA and UVB sun protection. All our sunscreens are PABA free. UVA protection is typically achieved through the action of physical UV blockers, such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, or UV absorbers such
as avobenzone/Parsol 1789.
