Job Summary

The Designer is responsible for researching, creating, and developing product designs for the following product categories: Active and Travel. Acting within the goal of protection for everyone, this position is responsible for contributing to the design development process from conception to production, maintaining the aesthetic and integrity of Coolibar, technical & elegant/features, end user groups, best technical fabrics, and elegant design. This position reports to the User Group Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Research

  • Leverage resources in sourcing new ideas, both internally and externally, and conduct ongoing competitor research/trend analysis. Research current fashion trends, styles, and analyze customer demand.
  • Shop the market for new concept ideas, technical innovations, trims, and materials.
  • Review buying history and selling data with sales and design team to help create seasonal line.
  • Design & Create

  • Create and develop stylish, creative, commercial designs reflecting trends and customer’s preferences, while reflecting the essence of the Coolibar brand across User Groups.
  • As the design process is the starting point for on-time delivery, the Designer is responsible for meeting deadlines and calendars requirements supporting and ensuring on-time delivery. This includes having designs completed prior to first sample being presented, eliminating designing during sampling process, having CADs handed off completely by due date, being ready for meetings, etc.
  • Create visual presentations of trends, new products, and merchandising concepts.
  • Create and manage detailed technical packages, including material specifications, trim, CAD packages, and color details.
  • Sketch flats in Illustrator for assigned categories.
  • Attend garment fittings and work with the Technical Designer on perfecting the fit of the products.
  • Own picking trims, thread colors and other garment details.
  • Partner and collaborate with team members, vendors, etc. throughout the design process including merchants, technical design, raw materials, production, and sourcing.
  • Present Concepts and Products at various milestone meetings.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design
  • 5+ years of apparel industry design experience with an eye for fashion and detail in product styling/performance
  • Experience in active apparel and performance and stretch fabrics required
  • Proficient with the following programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, Word
  • Knowledge of fabrics, colors, textiles, fit, and garment construction
  • Creative and detail oriented
  • Available to travel domestic and internationally
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and multi-task
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented and professional
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Able to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse group and to network, influence and utilize internal and external resources
  • Comfortable in a rapidly changing environment with competing and shifting priorities
